ABSTRACT

DOCHIA IOANOVICI: A QUASI-UNKNOWN CONTRIBUTION TO THE RESEARCH OF MAGICAL BELIEFS AND PRACTICES WITHIN THE BUCHAREST SCHOOL OF SOCIOLOGY

The aim of this study is to bring to the attention of the specialized public Dochia Ioanovici, an assiduous and talented researcher of magical practices within the Bucharest School of Sociology, and to highlight the content and scientific merits of the field research undertaken by her during the Runcu campaign (1930). I am outlining the data and information that I was able to find regarding Dochia Ioanovici; I am then analyzing the results obtained by the researcher, as they appear from her published work, while presenting some conclusions and observations, including some in relation to the current phenomenon of the persistence, among a certain part of the Romanian population, of some magic and witchcraft practices.
